Counseling attendance won’t be included in your academic record. Information you reveal to your counselor will remain confidential within the limits of the American Psychological Association’s ethical standards and the law. In general, your counselor cannot discuss your status as a client of our Center or your situation with anyone unless you have given written permission for them to release information about you. However, there are certain situations in which we must break confidentiality and report information to the appropriate person or agency. These situations are as follows: (a) if what you share indicates you’re in imminent danger of harming yourself or others; (b) if what you share reveals evidence of child or elder abuse or neglect; or (c) if we receive a court order or subpoena.
