When I submit Microsoft Word-based assignments in Blackboard, I lose formatting details in the document, such as page numbering and spacing.

When you submit a Word document to an assignment in Blackboard, the document renders on the screen for the instructor to read and possibly mark up on the screen.  If your assignment grade is dependent on the formatting of the document (MLA, APA, etc.), the instructor should download the original document to assess your formatting in its original layout.  While most formatting is retained, sometimes it is not.  Your professor will see the “The conversion process may have changed the spacing in this submission. You can still download the original file.” notification at the top of your submission.

If your instructor needs help or needs instructions on how to download original submission files in Blackboard assignments, he/she can reach out to the Department of Online Learning for assistance.
